Path to own

Turn the goal into a date

Wanting something is not a plan. Capital, income, and time are. Pick any of 71 targets and the model will tell you which of the three is actually standing in your way.

Two tests, not one

The capital test

Can you put the money down? A lease deposit, a marine loan deposit, or the full price of a watch. This one is fixed by saving, and only by saving — a higher income that all gets spent moves it not at all.

The income test

Can you carry it afterwards? Finance payment plus insurance, maintenance, fuel, crew, dockage, or servicing — every month, for as long as you own it. This one is fixed by earning more, and saving harder does nothing for it.

Most people check the price and stop. The price tells you almost nothing, because the two tests fail independently and are solved by opposite actions. The roadmap reports both, then tells you which one is setting your date.

Start with what is closest

The six targets on this site with the lowest monthly commitment. Not the cheapest to buy — the cheapest to keep, which is the number that decides whether ownership lasts.

Cars36

Default threshold: 20% of net monthly income.

Watches21

Default threshold: 5% of net monthly income.

Yachts14

Default threshold: 25% of net monthly income.

Every goal, ranked by what it costs to keep

Monthly commitment combines finance and running costs. Income implied assumes the default threshold for that asset class.

Frequently asked questions

How do you manifest a car, watch, or yacht?
The version of that question worth answering is arithmetic. Any purchase of this kind imposes two separate requirements: capital at the outset, and income able to carry the running costs afterwards. Neither responds to visualization. Both respond to a saving rate, an income trajectory, and a willingness to consider a cheaper route to the same experience. These pages calculate all three from figures you supply.
Why does the roadmap use two separate tests?
Because they fail independently, and people usually only check one. Someone can have the deposit for a supercar years before their income can absorb the payments, insurance, and servicing. Someone else can comfortably afford the monthly cost but has nothing saved. Checking only the price tells you nothing about which situation you are in, and the two are fixed by completely different actions.
What percentage of income should go to a luxury purchase?
There is no regulation, only convention. A widely cited guideline caps total vehicle costs at around 20% of net monthly income. For yachts, where running costs dominate, a more conservative 25% ceiling on all-in costs is a common planning figure. For watches, which are typically bought outright, the constraint is the purchase itself rather than a monthly payment. Every threshold on this site is adjustable, and the default is printed next to the result.
Is the projected date a prediction?
No. It is an extrapolation of the figures you enter, assuming steady income growth and steady returns. No real career or market behaves that way. The value is in the comparison between scenarios — which lever actually moves the date — rather than in the date itself.
Does this replace financial advice?
It does not, and it is not intended to. This is a calculator that performs stated arithmetic on numbers you provide. It does not know your tax position, debts, dependants, job security, or goals, and it makes no recommendation about whether any purchase is wise. For decisions of this size, speak to a qualified adviser.
